Obituary

Patricia “Patty” M. Hansen, 79, of Arvada, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at home with family at her side.

Patricia was born October 9, 1939, in Menomonie, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Clarence and Eunice (Karns) Metling, and grew up in Menomonie where she graduated high school.

She married Richard “Swede” or “Dick” Hansen, her high school sweetheart, January 18, 1958 in Menomonie and moved to Spokane, Washington where he was stationed in the US Air Force. They had two sons Michael (1958) and Scott (1961). They moved back to the Menomonie in 1961 and later moved to Minneapolis where she attended the University of Minnesota. In 1964 they moved to Rochester, Mn and she worked for the Kahler Hotels as the secretary to the president. In 1971, they moved to Owatonna, where she became the secretary to the superintendent of schools and then later owned the local Montgomery Wards store.

In 1986, she moved to Denver and married Charles “Chuck” Butler. She worked for Sundstrand Corporation as the head of Human Resources until she retired in 1999. She and Chuck enjoyed their time together traveling, camping, and was involved with the local VFW, American Legion, Elks clubs in Arvada. They later divorced.

Patty then moved to Kauai, Hawaii in 2006 for a couple years where she learned to hula dance and enjoyed the beauty of the islands, ocean and lush mountain hiking trails. She moved back to Arvada where she spent the rest of her life.

She loved to garden, knit and crochet, paint and ceramics.

While raising her family in Owatonna, she was an avid supporter along with her husband to in all sports especially, football, hockey, baseball and the Eagles slow pitch softball team.

NFL football was her favorite professional sport as she loved cheering on the Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers.

She was a dog lover who owned Shih-tzu puppies most of her life that brought her great joy and companionship.

Patty was beautiful spirit who loved to “mother” everyone. She was selfless, putting others needs ahead of hers and providing loving advice. She was fun, good humored and true joy to be around. Patty made an impact on so many people lives and will truly be missed.

Patty is survived by her son, Scott (Paula) of Kauai,HI and her foster daughter Bridget Prescher (Dave) of Chippewa Falls, WI., four grandchildren, Jordan, Richard, Marcus and Ian, one niece, two nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Billy, sister Barbara and her son Michael.

There will be a celebration of life for Patty at the VFW in Arvada on March 9th at 3:30 PM.
