Obituary

Ken McWharter, 58, of Denver, Colorado died on January 1, 2020 after courageously
battling cancer for eight months.
Ken was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, and grew up in Pottstown, PA attending Owen J.
Roberts High School and then studying at Juniata College. After graduation he
followed his brother Dave to Denver, CO.
Ken was a stonemason with the heart of an artist. He took great pride in his craft. He
was an honest businessman who did quality work. He was also an avid potter. His
stone work throughout Colorado and Pennsylvania will stand the test of time and
forever be Ken’s legacy. Ken’s home and his family members’ homes are lined with
his pottery of all shape and sizes. Later in life, Ken also worked with Dave in his
laboratory conducting environmental testing.
Ken had many interests and pursued them with passion: soccer, reading, fishing and
fly tying, ceramics and wood kiln firing, RC planes, brewing, gardening, sun prints,
snowboarding, sports watching and animated discussions. His favorite questions
was, ‘is man natural?’
He was dedicated to his family, taking a big trip to Cape Cod every summer and
visiting friends in PA. Later he traveled back and forth to Pottstown to take care of
his ailing parents until they passed.
Above all else, Ken was a best friend to his brother Dave. Ken and Dave lived
together (before Dave married), fished together, worked together, enjoyed life
together and will forever be each other’s best friend. Ken helped care for Dave
throughout his long illness, spending countless hours sitting with Dave during his
many hospital stays during his final year. Dave passed away in May of 2019 and Ken
fell ill shortly thereafter. The two were destined to follow life’s path together. In
addition to Dave, Ken had many friends including Pete (his roommate) his many
friends from soccer, and his high school friends that he continued to stay in touch
with (Bruce and Mark). The power of those friendships was in full force during
Ken’s illness where he had a steady stream of visitors that stepped in to help fill the
void that Dave’s loss had left behind. He was heartened by the love shown by his
friends in his final days.
Ken leaves behind his sister Karen, nephews Dylan, Nick, and Jackson, niece Kristin,
and sister in law Pam and he will be dearly missed.
